Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, Daniel Mikesell was an Assistant Professor, Digital Art in Public Places Lab, Hongik University, Seoul, S. Korea, and a Researcher in Residence at University of Maine's Innovative Media Research Center. He also has several honor including: World Class University Grant professor, 4 year position teaching and researching media art in Korea, Founder of HackerSpace Seoul, Korean Foundation for Science and Creativity grant for artwork using recombinant DNA as an imaging tool, and building an orchestra of biomimetic kinetic instruments as part of HackerSpace Seoul, been interviewed on "BBC World Service", "The Evening Show" and "Eloquence" magazine, Most personally important artistic achievement showing work at the Nam June Paik Art Center, Engadget Expand competition finalist for "Hodu Physical Therapy" device, Created and operated robots for the off broadway performance of "Heddatron" an adaptation of Ibsen's "Hedda Gabler", SIGGRAPH Research Challenge 1st place winner "Project : Prey", and SIGGRAPH Research Challenge 1st place winner "HODU".
